how I interpret this series of events from D’s perspective

D, under orders to protect the Danni, receives a request to pass on to his boss Kat/Kleya. Danni then says she’s going to leave now.
D, reporting to Kat: Danni says to tell you she’s going to leave now.
D is proud of himself for doing a good job.
Kat misunderstands the situation and is internally panicking

Might be about right. Perhaps AI Kat froze because she was waiting for the request.

Oh man, I thought the author just let the request fall between panels for drama reasons. If that really was the message that gets sent, oof.
