Really Jake? You’ve got quick enough reflexes to out Special Kat and her super rig, but you can’t catch Jane here? For shame! lol. Guess those debuffs for not sleeping aren’t a joke.

Rens on 09/10/2019 @ 4:45 am

What people forget is that Jane only *acts* crazy psycho, because that’s the persona she created for herself.

That doesn’t mean she isn’t acting on a plan, just that she hasn’t shared the plan with anyone.

Drgnhawk on 09/10/2019 @ 12:26 pm

Just because her “game face” is a persona and she has a plan doesn’t mean she’s not a whole different kind of psycho underneath!

Remember, the “plan” as described to Kleya is “destroy the last source of mass entertainment, that practically everyone is obsessed with, and that I am currently using to support my children, in hope that this somehow saves them.”

maeverin on 09/11/2019 @ 7:54 am

i think Jane’s idea is to destroy the Game so people get off their bottoms and start using those resources to fix their situation instead of wasting them on a fantasy world.

ChunLing on 09/21/2019 @ 3:47 pm

The problem being that, as Dude has alluded, the Game is a highly efficient use of resources to help alleviate the despair that otherwise would make it impossible for most people in the Cities to actually do anything productive.

Whether or not Jane is right that people in the Cities should sacrifice themselves for the benefit of her family without any compensation, the fact is that they won’t and, as humans, can’t.

Jane, you’re playin’ a game
You never can win girl
You’re stayin’ away so I ask you
“Where you been, baby?”

Matthew Sanchez on 09/10/2019 @ 6:59 am

That’s not good

kyle on 09/10/2019 @ 7:39 am

I did not see that coming. This is exciting!

maeverin on 09/10/2019 @ 7:50 am

Can the group leader see whispers? I wonder if she knows Bandit promised to make sure Danni survives and is going to make him work for it. Or if she wants to try and ruin Kat’s erbana score.

DragonMaster on 09/10/2019 @ 9:58 am

LOL “Jane is Jane.” I love that description.

Iron Ed on 09/15/2019 @ 6:44 pm

I like Jane; looks good and fun too! πŸ™‚

Meerling on 09/10/2019 @ 3:33 pm

I suspect Jane is intentionally making a distraction.
As to whether the distraction is intended for Bandit or the Audience, I’m not sure.

Iron Ed on 09/10/2019 @ 4:00 pm

Get her, Danni! Draw some good attention for -yourself!- πŸ™‚

Starwaster on 09/11/2019 @ 10:57 am

Jane’s gonna Jane.

TehFishey on 09/11/2019 @ 11:30 am

For Jane, attacking Kat right now would actually be a pretty strong move.

We know that Jane and Sandra both don’t want the group exploring this island right now, or giving Tenka any more intelligence regarding either it or their conspiracy. They all but said a few strips ago that they would like the Kat AI to flee the island, so that the group has a reason to pursue and thus ignore Tekna’s mandated exploration.

By attacking Kat right at log-in, Jane is probably attempting to incentivize the AI to retreat – and seeing how this is a Morto island and Jane is a Morto player, she could be pushing the AI to withdraw to friendlier territory.

For the audience’s sake, attacking Kat at the start of the stream also provides an excuse for why she (the AI) would be mistrustful of the group and seek to avoid them, even though Kat (the player) worked well with them last session.

kit ramos on 09/14/2019 @ 10:43 am

yea, your right that is a smart move for her to make.

Her plan to crash the system is not so smart though, I can see where she got caught up in the emotions and not thinking things all the way though. one of the problems is that permanently shutting down the game will not be with out consequences, even if Tekna where not to try to use what resources it does have to go after them. The negative effects will spread quite far, more then I think she realizes. The economy is barely holding together as it is, many people who only connection to the outside world or the only place they can get relief from the crazy mess that is their reality is these games. You also have all the people who are relying on these games in someway to make their living. And having to many people suddenly out of work is really bad news. because of how much interdependency there is in a normal economy. Business can only afford to pay their workers because people are buying their goods, but people can only afford to buy their goods because they are getting paid. Such a shock to the system is going to be devastating. now a healthy economy can afford for there to be some variability here. As Stores that where doing well can take small hits here and there and still be able to keep going as they would of been making more sales than they need so making a few less for a while is not going to be the end of the world. but if the sales drop by to much and for to long, the business will run out of money and leave even more people with no jobs. which just brings on the downward spiral. which will drive back up scarcity of resources that where just starting to become more available again.

or in shorter terms, getting rid of the game will not mean that people will suddenly have time and motivation to work on digging others out of the wreckage. no it will only make that problem much worse as now everyone even those who where lucky enough not to need to anymore, will be back to struggling on their own for basic needs.. Any help she might of been able to get before will certainly not be coming once the effects of the game being gone are fully felt.

ChunLing on 09/21/2019 @ 3:54 pm

To be fair, the economy of the Cities is much more of a simple command economy than a complex market economy.

That doesn’t change the fact that, without access to distractions like L.i.F.e and the Game, the productive capacity will decline (or more resources will have to be spent on non-virtual satisfactions).

In other words, the complex market economy is basically already completely collapsed, the residents of Cities are basically slaves who do as they’re told in order to survive…but that only works as long as they actually still want to go on living.

Jane wants to try beating a dead horse.

Iron Ed on 09/11/2019 @ 3:18 pm

Hah! I like panels 2 & 3. πŸ™‚

Joel on 09/13/2019 @ 6:13 am

I wonder if it’s the AI or the real Kleya?

Gil on 09/15/2019 @ 8:25 pm

If avatar pockets don’t work, why would the sickle?

ChunLing on 09/21/2019 @ 4:01 pm

Because sickles are a weapon, and the Game code supports them.

The Game code doesn’t support pockets. If you don’t have a Special that grants access to an inventory, you can’t cheat by just wearing clothes with pockets.

Granted, that is a kinda weird design choice for an RPG. Usually you have at least some inventory space and can expand it with special items/powers. I guess realism was the watchword but they went too far or whatever. Might be a physics engine problem, not that it should be impossible or even difficult to implement bulk/weight penalties for having stuff in non-magical storage, but that it didn’t work out well at the interface level.
