‘Not A Villain’ Webcomic – Page 586

It's pretty much a death sentence even if you're willing to move to another City since TENka rarely brings you back.

Why is it a death sentence to live in a non-Tenka city, e.g. if she lived with Sandra?

Technically its a “Life Sentence” but… the other cities aren’t nearly as self-contained as Tenka is. They are all failing, one after the other. A single programmer won’t change anything. Especially because they will pick the most broken one on the list.

Sharpshot4321 on 07/04/2017 @ 2:58 am

Doesn’t sound so much like a death sentence as much as not TENka’s city. TENka probably has a much higher quality of life situation than anywhere else, and as the (not really sure what to call it. Author’s note? Page Caption?) says, leaving TENka’s city is a one way ticket.

Christopher on 07/04/2017 @ 3:49 am

He propably planned to leak she is a “despiseable hacker” so they would lynch her. Either case him still looking for a death sentence is a really bad idea.

AustereDreamer on 07/04/2017 @ 6:18 am

I assume because of The Hunts, the lower quality of life support/living in a non-Tenka city, and, based on the fact that Danni was to be removed from her city to be replaced by outsiders (most likely due to physical labor’s value in this situation, as much as the resource loss she generates), having to work herself (likely literally) to death to stay in the city. A programmer in bad standing likely couldn’t serve the entertainment value due to the stain on her name for hacking, and would be hard pressed to argue their value. Unless the city she ends up in either has people in the game, or has hope of getting people into the game, so she could sell her services to them to raise their popularity, I don’t imagine things working out.

A lot of this is based on assumption, and I may’ve missed something/there may be another obfuscated detail, but I imagine some or most of these facts would make a deportation a death sentence.

I think that Bandit is thinking of sending him to The Dude’s city. I think “death sentence” is mostly Dr. Grace being melodramatic.

Meerling on 07/05/2017 @ 10:29 am

Exactly what I was thinking.

I’m assuming ti’s because only TENka has good(?) living conditions and the rest of the Cities are barely hanging on. Plus said person is a programmer and there are still a large number of hostile people out there. Those that refuse to distinguish between a programmer and a hacker. SO yeah, that’ll shorten your lifespan for sure. Just accuse someone of being a hacker and they will mostly likely be lynched brutally, even if there is no proof.

Looking at other examples of people in other cities, I suppose it’s a matter of work: Do everything and anything the city asks of you, or be kicked out.

Alex on 07/06/2017 @ 11:40 pm

Thanks for your responses everyone! I agree that it’s probably more like a life sentence than a death sentence and that she will have worse living conditions, especially when the city is told “you wanted a programmer? Have a hacker!”. 😀

Christopher on 07/04/2017 @ 3:43 am

Hey, Dr Grace: I case you have not noticed, humanity is a dying species. Maybe you should stop trying to kill it faster?

Also her incredible crimes thus far were “caring for her family” and “having valuable programming skills”. That sounds like exactly the kind of person you want to keep alive.

Krahazik on 07/04/2017 @ 8:46 am

The 2nd just might help her out in one of the lesser cities if they are really that desperate for programmers. She becomes an irreplaceable asset to the city.

Devon_v on 07/04/2017 @ 6:08 am

Presumably she has no survival skills, and like most people, is dependent on TENka’s aid. It doesn’t have to be an immediately fatal situation, just an inevitable one.

I hates to say this, and not meaning to be a downer… but this story seems to be moving very slowly and the plot is starting to lose me. At this point I really have no idea what’s going on and I’ve been reading since day 1. I may be obtuse… or could be needs more clarification and step up the pace a leetle.

GLJordan on 07/05/2017 @ 8:33 pm

the world went to heck. “Kleya” being blamed for it. She is now trying to redeem herself by being a “hero”. unforunately their are various threats to her including Kim who blames her for her mothers death. Dr grace might be a threat and certainly wants to use her for his own gains. Bandit who was her best friend being the closest thing she has to an ally in Tenka but even he isn’t fully trustable and of course how much she is actually guilt is unncertain.

Snoots Dwagon on 07/07/2017 @ 5:45 am

Tyty GL. That fills in part of it. : )

Keybounce on 07/07/2017 @ 12:27 am

This part of the story looks like more background info. We know that there are only a few self-contained cities, and that they are dependent on outsiders for food. Now we’re getting a bit of a look at the other cities — where even being a programmer isn’t necessarily a good survival trait.
