His arm turned into a leaf, I think. Did the whole of him turnsinto a plant? Is this the work of a “normal” (if unusually strong) game AI, or the work of D, or is it K herself back in the game?

mathiau on 12/08/2020 @ 9:33 am

I’m pretty sure they got turned into stone

Alex on 12/08/2020 @ 12:39 am

Bandit looks like “Meh, ok, I’ll let her do it.” *shrug*

Zarylo on 12/08/2020 @ 5:39 am

The innocent raise their hands!

Necrosylum on 12/08/2020 @ 6:04 am

Oh my g-ds are they being turned into trees? I’m laughing so hard at that right now.

mathiau on 12/08/2020 @ 11:10 am

Into stones, and probably only temporarily

Kittenykat on 12/08/2020 @ 6:15 am

Red light!

Kale on 12/08/2020 @ 7:59 am

Hold person? Or did she just turn them into trees?

mathiau on 12/08/2020 @ 11:16 am

Why is everyone talking about trees when she used stones from a treeless area that turned them in a glistening very non-treelike orange? It’s obviously a petrify spell.

ChiSig on 12/08/2020 @ 12:09 pm

they’re trying to connect it to Erbana I think

Ladyofthemasque on 12/09/2020 @ 1:58 am

Erbana is a pacifist route, not necessarily an herb route. Yes, it uses mostly herbs, but also it clearly uses other aspects of nature, such as rocks (as above). It could also include special saps, juices, freely given feathers or hairs/tufts of fur, even things like mushrooms (which are NOT plants!), and more.

Kale on 12/10/2020 @ 12:03 am

I have a vague recollection of the trees where they were previously were made from people. I don’t remember the specifics of that though. It’s been a while since I reread the comic.

EsmayThePanda on 12/08/2020 @ 8:17 am

I get it, that’s amber! Since amber’s just a hardened sap, it’s still a plant, clever AI-Kat!

Kale on 12/10/2020 @ 12:05 am

Oh, nice catch. That could definitely be it. Too bad we can’t use Mr. DNA to make a dino from them.

Colin+WG on 12/08/2020 @ 9:51 am

Rock & Roll ! I guessed right?

mathiau on 12/08/2020 @ 11:31 am

Good thing these things are locked behind a relatively high Erbana percentage, this level of CC would be far to broken to use anywhere near someone who wants to fight, even assuming it makes the stoned people invulnerable.

JonesNate on 12/08/2020 @ 3:29 pm

Stoned people, huh?
*snrk*

Nevris on 12/08/2020 @ 8:42 pm

I think we’d have to see what the duration is, or what rolls the targets failed on, if any, or if the target can do things to get out of it quickly.

Or yeah, it could be the other way where it really does effectively stop combat for the targets. Between abilities like this, and that other recastable CC with the plants stopping Bandit from doing things, Erbana may be an absolutely amazing CC class gated by spell components.

Patrick Thomson on 12/09/2020 @ 9:00 pm

If their only thing is CC with literally no direct offence that could be fairly balanced I think? Like, you are great at protecting yourself and stopping attacks but have literally no way to attack back without dropping down low enough in Erbana that you don’t have access to the best stuff any more.

It would make having one on a team incredibly powerful unless the CC was broken by taking any damage though. It doesn’t matter if you can’t attack back directly if you have three teammates who are more than willing to do so in your place. If you are able to, with this little effort, completely negate two enemy combatants and hold them there while someone else goes to town on them, that is so insanely broken that every team would basically be required to have at least one high level Erbana.

Atros on 12/11/2020 @ 8:20 pm

Actually, Erbana would be a nightmare for their violence inclined teammates. People getting killed near them lowers their score, so they’d have to fight to wound, then have the Erbana screw off for awhile, wouldn’t be surprised if she was stuck in ‘combat’ regardless of distance while her CC was active though and considered an accomplice in their deaths. For awhile after, even.

The real nightmare would be pairing an Erbana with characters like a Mani. Force them to stay there and talk it out, with an ally whose every word inches you towards mind control doom.

Nevris on 12/16/2020 @ 4:55 am

Trust Us, We’re Pacifists party:

Erbana: incapacitates others, stops combat, forces people to listen to the Mani
Mani: uses Erbana for mind control attempts for class power
Cardista: uses Mani (or Erbana immobilization) to swipe their cards and gain power
Kesti: uses Mani to receive favorable quests. Ideally this won’t require returning to a quest giver afterward

No need for violence to gain power. Cards seem useful, Kesti seems strong enough if apparent legendary player Saisuke uses it.

Crestlinger on 12/08/2020 @ 5:23 pm

‘Fall damage can be lethal here.’ Yeah so is shattering people turned into amber.

Meerling on 12/08/2020 @ 6:21 pm

Whatever effect that is, their opponents can’t move.
Great for getting away.
Or stuffing them in a nearby latrine pit if there is one…

Mike on 12/08/2020 @ 10:32 pm

I think she covered them in solidified amber so they can’t move. They may even be mentally stunned until the amber is removed as well. Unfortunately for them that means they are permanently stuck where they are forever. IE: No logging out and their IRL bodies may die of starvation or other causes. And if they are physically removed from the game (their headsets or whatever are removed for them by someone else IRL) their bodies may be in a coma with no consciousness in residence.

Flynn on 12/09/2020 @ 12:10 pm

Their kidos probably have a safety auto release or manual emergency release that would disconnect them. Just need to make sure it doesn’t happen in a no sleeping zone or they could get fined.

VoxelLibrary on 12/09/2020 @ 12:37 pm

Your consciousness doesn’t leave the body when you use a kiddo. Even if kiddos were capable of that, they don’t have processing power to spare simulating the human brain.

VoxelLibrary on 12/09/2020 @ 12:38 pm

At least, that’s how I understand it.

Mike on 12/09/2020 @ 7:08 pm

Yes, but that “mentally stunned” could be something downloaded into their brain that needs a different code to deactivate it, all the while being connected to the game. If you disconnect them from the game without the code the code can maybe never be transmitted to them. And I’m pretty sure the kidos are capable of doing the download of the “stun” program into a users mind. That is what they are designed for, uploading and downloading data to/from peoples’ minds.

Alexander The 1st on 12/11/2020 @ 8:47 pm

I’d be optimistic and hope that hey, maybe they just desync the Game model from the player, and they get a little disoriented as they flail around – until they log out.

Carl de Malmanche on 01/01/2021 @ 12:22 pm

Could still be near-death Game wise, they could log in and out, but in game you’d still be frozen and boring until effect wears off or something acts on you.

B.J. on 12/10/2020 @ 3:52 am

Kat’s telling them they should leaf Danni alone.
