“TENka only cares if others cheat”. Typical.

“I love it when a plan comes together.”

Ooooooh, so Tenka-approved cheating is a thing. Though it’s more pathetic than surprising really. Ins’t it enough that hey already have the advantage of knowing Special rules best?

Alexander The 1st on 08/11/2020 @ 1:46 am

I think it’s a side effects of knowing the Special rules best – promising programmers are offered Tenka jobs when found, and the code leaking features are one thing Tenka can offer as opportunities once they take their Specials knowledge to work with Tenka on the Game – and whatever else is their priorities at the time.

Well, back on page 74, Kleya thought “Legalized hacking … can also mean TENKA”, and we’ve already seen that Kleya isn’t the only one who dislikes TENKA for their overreach.

“You TENka cheater!”
“Oh, this? That’s a Special I’m using, not a cheat.”
“Well, you TENka folks know Specials better than anyone… I guess that makes sense.”
(In a whisper to teammates): “Don’t look at me like I’m lying – ‘this’ and ‘that’ refer to two different things…”

Is that a body being flung in the background of panel 1?

Emma on 08/14/2020 @ 12:14 am

How did you-? I just noticed it.

dxm2000 on 08/11/2020 @ 6:13 am

Hmm. I can’t help but wonder if there is more to it than that. Like… If the excess info is specifically for avoiding triggering things that aren’t a risk to normal players. More a case of convenient in this scenario but necessary in others.

Oh, there’s always a justifiable reason for this sort of governmental double standard, at least at the beginning.

RowenMorland on 08/14/2020 @ 2:37 pm

But at this point Tenka is presiding over the ending. Humanity seems to be holding onto the edge of the cliff by the fingers of a single hand, if I had to ruin my arm to hold on a little longer it might be worth it at that point.

Debug Console.

TENka developed the Kido, so it’s likely the “debug functions” were enabled during development and left enabled for TENka staff, but disabled for the consumer version.

The Hakido was an experimental TENka project, seemingly combining a main control in the neck (not removable without surgery [#606], so given the stated intent of the project, likely a neural interface) with an exoskeleton. Given it was an experimental TENka project, it would have had the debug functions still enabled – hence why Kleya can see the ‘code view’. They very likely only built a handful of the Hakidos, and Kleya’s is the only functional one.

Meanwhile, the #630s could be of relevance, with Jane wanting the game shut down (at least partially because it seems to be consuming the bulk of TENka’s time and resources – especially with maintaining former player characters as NPCs – rather than focusing on materially improving people’s real lives) while Kleya wants it to remain for the time being to build her intended new ‘heroic’ reputation.

Meanwhile, with the Snowman group having somehow temporarily isolated The Game, maybe it would be an opportune time for D to take advantage of TENka being distracted to go roaming through their databases to find the lowdown on Jane…

Is dude telling a lie to cover for Bandit reading game code?

Iron Ed on 08/14/2020 @ 7:56 pm

The AI is ‘acting weird’ because it’s -not- an AI!
