How is ending the game important? It has things like a “start” button and a “reboot” button, right? After the game ends, you just… play again.

Atros on 01/28/2020 @ 11:25 am

It’s become somewhat clear over this arc that Tenka doesn’t have proper hardware control of the Game the way we normally think of it. If they did, there being islands with loaded resources and what not that they don’t know about would be functionally impossible. A simple alert if anyone entered that blocked off island would be easily arranged. Or more likely just ‘if you appear here, force logout and notify administrator”. “The Game” being sourced at least in part by Kleya, it looks like actual, administrator level control is either Kleya exclusive (at the moment) or nonexistent entirely. A satellite based server that can “host” additional servers to expand content, but that can’t be interfered with itself? Controlled by a prototype of D? No idea. Given that it’s created by a genius unrivalled unstoppable hacker/programmer who’s literally so good she destroyed the world on accident, sky’s the limit for how it would be done.

Stacts on 01/28/2020 @ 1:24 pm

To be fair, I’m pretty sure D was the one that destroyed the world (on Keiko’s directions of course, but still).

kit ramos on 02/02/2020 @ 5:59 pm

not just end the game. Crash the servers, and with basically all of the IT staff killed off in hacker hunts long time ago, and learning about that stuff still seems to get people into trouble. well getting it rebooted is not going to be an easy task.

RedPine on 02/06/2020 @ 7:07 am

Think about how finicky real servers and software are. It is not a stretch by any means to imply that once a server crashes, it might corrupt in a way that makes it irrecoverable.

It might be even worse if it’s not a crash, but a self destruct/factory reset built into the original code. This wouldn’t be a problem if you had enough memory for backup saves (and admin rights to load those saves), but it has been repeatedly mentioned that the world is VERY low on server memory.

kit ramos on 02/07/2020 @ 8:23 pm

ooh how well know that, I’ve done IT support for several years, I know how fickle the stuff is, and how a lot of the times you really have to know exactly how and where to look or you’ll never get to the actual cause of the problem and it’ll just seem like it’ll never work right.

I’m thinking they don’t even have backups, of most things. and with how important the life game is to everyone as basically the main place everyone lives and connects in. even if they where able to eventually reload and restore all the settings and user data perfectly, the amount of time that would likely take would cause a lot other problems. so it’s one of those things they would be screwed no matter what. and since they likely don’t have such backups, or anyone to attempt to restore the servers at all if they did go down well it’ll be that much worse.

Psiberkiwi on 01/28/2020 @ 4:49 am

TENka didn’t create the island…

Kleya didn’t create the island…

That means… there’s a third party on this dance card, and their motives are decidedly suspect (and Brandon and Jake seem to know who it might be).

Which kinda make a weird sort of sense. Everyone has always believed that Kleya ended the world and was the leader of the terrorist group, Deconstruct Me… but I’ve always wondered if it was a case of Kleya went on a rampage about something (the loss/kidnapping of her mother, perhaps?), and Deconstruct Me just used that as a front for their own activities, letting the blame all fall on Kleya.

Stacts on 01/28/2020 @ 1:23 pm

It has been my theory for years that DeconstructMe didn’t exist until after The Ending had started.

I believe that there were four different forces that created The Ending:

1: Tenka
2: The Resistance
3: Keiko
4: The flipping of the Geomagnetic fields

When Keiko’s father was kidnapped (presumably, possibly arrested), Keiko would have gone nuts. By this point, she already had the Hakido and (if you believe me) D (which I believe she salvaged to work as a driver or interface between her and the Hakido). When she has any emotional response, D is immediately at her side offering to help her. D went wild, creating chaos, and a group of hackers came together to take credit and cause more chaos, and called themselves DeconstructMe.

It would appear that there are at least two “original creators” no longer at Tenka: Keiko and the resistance leader.

Who is the President?

Does Keiko hate the President? Why?

If Keiko doesn’t hate him, why does he hide?

How many “originals” are there?

Why does Bandit not know the win-con?

What was the name of the game?

Ineverrememberallmynames on 01/28/2020 @ 5:48 am

So I can only think of two people who had a hand in creating the game that aren’t at Tenka, Keiko… and her mom? Is Keiko mommy alive?

Atros on 01/28/2020 @ 11:19 am

Might be quite a few more people involved. “Cardista” as an alignment doesn’t suit the personality of anyone we’ve been introduced to, for instance. We also know there’s a few “originals” that Kleya’s backdoors include besides bandit, since it was reasonable to make him rest instead of have him go around unlocking doors after the citywide reboot.

Nikary Flare on 01/28/2020 @ 2:18 pm

What about Keiko’s dad?

Dragon Master on 01/29/2020 @ 3:36 pm

My theory is that DeconstructMe may not have actually been a terrorist group that ended the world. I think they may have been an open source group who may not have exactly done things strictly legally. As such big corporations like TENka and others would naturally hate them and give them a bad rep. So when everything went to h*** because of a Virus they were the ones left holding the wrong end of the stick…

kit ramos on 02/02/2020 @ 6:15 pm

I also agree they likely where not a terrorist group.

One thought is they could of been Red Teaming at the time gotten in further than they expected, possibly having Kleya in on it, as before the end happened that kind of work would fit perfectly with what she liked to do for fun. So I could see her being sent off to do it as it would be a legit use for her talents and interests.
But while they where there something happened, either by total accident, or some external event provoked her big time and by the time she came back to her senses the damage was already done. From what I head the events where pretty much dominions falling creating this catastrophic fail. but such things do not need a big event to start them going a small even in just the wrong area will also do it.

There is another

Stacts on 01/28/2020 @ 10:15 am

New question: Have we previously met the (suspected) leader of the resistance, or is there no reason to dodge the name?

Drgnhawk on 01/28/2020 @ 12:51 pm

Maybe this is related? https://navcomic.com/not-a-villain/page-243/

Stacts on 01/28/2020 @ 1:06 pm

But I’m pretty sure we don’t have his name. And Mr. Dude seems to know whom Bandit is referencing. Even if it is her dad, that wouldn’t explain the name dodging in the last panel.

Drgnhawk on 01/28/2020 @ 9:38 pm

I’m not sure I’m right, but I was thinking they would have to dodge the name for the same reason they dodge the names of Keiko and her mother – for fear of riling up D/The Virus.

Stacts on 01/29/2020 @ 8:07 am

I like that theory.

Still a problem (the dodging of names) if it isn’t her dad though…

Dragon Master on 01/29/2020 @ 3:43 pm

Huh and here I thought her dad was Leimos or whatever the guy who owned Tree Island was called.

Aoinfinity on 01/30/2020 @ 11:14 am

It is. They’re dodging his real name, not his character name.

Marscaleb on 01/29/2020 @ 7:17 pm

There’s a resistance?!

David Creighton Samuels on 01/29/2020 @ 10:43 pm

Yeah, really! What are they resisting, exactly? The Game, or Tenka’s dominance of the Game? Or something else entirely?

Stacts on 01/30/2020 @ 5:42 am

Probably TENKa’s dictatorial behaviors.

kit ramos on 02/02/2020 @ 9:04 pm

They think everyone the game is keeping everyone so complacent that they are forgetting about everything not directly related to the game. and not just the mmorpg-ish game that our group is currently in. But the outer game that is now being used as the main social hub for everyone. This resistance group wants to shut the whole thing down so people will stop wasting all their time inside this “game” and start trying to rebuild the real world.

Alexander The 1st on 01/30/2020 @ 7:35 pm

I mean, if it turns out Kat is the leader does of the Resistance covertly, that…would also explain it.

Also, l suspect Kimi-san is now watching the Whispers now.

kit ramos on 02/02/2020 @ 8:57 pm

I highly doubt Kat is the leader, however I do think that if we still do have the Ai running Kats avatar. then the real Kat is dealing with the resistance in her own way.

Stig Hemmer on 01/30/2020 @ 3:31 am
