I wonder when we’re actually going to get confirmation if this is an AI or Kleya herself

Alexander The 1st on 12/31/2019 @ 2:33 pm

Honestly, it’d be funny if they never got full confirmation the whole session.

Routinely robotic human responses, with Bandit going “That tracks with what the A.I. does with an Erbana character.”.

Johnny on 12/31/2019 @ 1:42 am

It’s either D or not an AI at all!

Michiel van Geel on 12/31/2019 @ 1:50 am

And a happy new year to you too. And thank you for the weekly smile. 🙂

Meerling on 12/31/2019 @ 3:07 am

Repay?

I get the feeling this kind of thing isn’t normal for an AI to do.

When did Kat show a desire for payback?

I’m still thinking it’s not the AI at this point, though I’m not sure.

I’m wondering how she knows it leads to Kesti. This is an unknown area, or at least it should be. The AI might have access to that info, but it should be programmed to not act on that kind of information that isn’t known to the character. (No cheating using meta knowledge the character can’t have.)

Oh well, just speculating. We’ll find out eventually. 😉

Colin WG on 12/31/2019 @ 8:07 am

First off, Kat has always wanted to payback what people have given her.

And I’m going to lean in with Johnny up on comment-32404 that in that this might actually be D assuming the AI instead of something default out the box.

Meerling on 12/31/2019 @ 11:59 am

I did think about D as well, who knows a lot more about what’s actually going on in her head than any game AI would, but I think it’s less likely than it being Kat herself. Don’t forget that D was instructed to not interfere in the game, just to monitor.

He may be a bit impulsive and all that, but I don’t think he’d go and run her character. Him doing something more direct on the code level seems like his style, especially due to his impulsiveness. Tweeking the results of the random encounter table, glitching an avatar so it freezes up, maybe even crashing an entire zone, that kind of thing. 🙂

Gilly on 12/31/2019 @ 9:10 am

For losing an esone to save Kleya earlier.

Meerling on 12/31/2019 @ 11:43 am

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear on one thing.

When did she show a desire to payback anyone “in game” in a way that the game would have recorded for an AI to extrapolate from.
Whispers apparently aren’t considered accessible since it’s not apparent to viewers, and is also off limits to the company as well, otherwise Bandit would already be toast.

There might have been something spoken outloud in game, but I don’t recall anything, and I don’t have time to go through the archives, though it would be enjoyable to reread those.

Meerling on 12/31/2019 @ 11:50 am

Also from Bandits comments about an AI, it sounds like they have little to no sense of loyalty even to their own party and would have the immediate priority of getting an esone above and beyond all other issues except being attacked.

Sorry about my longwinded scatterbrained comments.

Gilly on 12/31/2019 @ 9:11 am

Didn’t Danni lose the esone for helping Kleya? Also to attack Jane while Kat was defending Danni.

Drgnhawk on 01/01/2020 @ 2:00 pm

To me, the big tipoff is that the alleged AI somehow knows that Danni wants to be Kesti. Wasn’t that a discussion they had outside The Game – and in the half-finished university zone on top of that?

GLJordan on 01/02/2020 @ 11:40 pm

Dani actually has an active Kesti quest to find Dude a card So an AI could be responding to that but personally I think it is Kleya

Anodyne on 01/03/2020 @ 4:27 am

But Danni has been requesting quests e.g. Find The Dude A Card, Non-Lethally Incapacitate An Attacker. Could her dominant trait now be Kesti, and this lead to a Kesti-specific Esone?

On the other hand, if the AI controlling Kat is D, then this would be a fun way for it to muck up entirely by revealing it had knowledge from inside L.i.F.E. rather than the Game…

Auryn on 12/31/2019 @ 8:05 am

The colored-door room was pretty clearly colored for each of the alignments – there was a pink for erbana too – so by associating color with doorways you could make a reasonable guess of which was which. That’s not all been said ALOUD though, so the AI simply saying “This leads to Kesti” isn’t terrible.

I wonder if Danni will be able to get the ‘repayment’ to be finding the Erbana esone first.

Aoinfinity on 01/02/2020 @ 10:52 am

It surprised me that the AI (if AI it is) knew that Danni wanted to go Kesti, though. That shows that it’s been monitoring everything that the players have been saying, and running it through some sophisticated analysis algorithms. It’s light years harder to follow and comprehend a conversation than to parse voice commands. The repayment thing could just be a pre-coded response to being helped, but the Kesti thing means, to me, that something’s up.

Gilly on 12/31/2019 @ 9:08 am

Definitely an AI. K would have sounded less confused aloud and used whispers for the real plan.

Meerling on 12/31/2019 @ 3:27 pm

Good point, but she’s not been much of a conversationalist, and let in a panic worried about having given herself away as well as having issues with her friendship. (She’s not sure of herself, or other people, and worried about Dannie being around Bandit.)

You could be right, but I’m still not betting on it being the AI. 🙂

I wonder if Aneeka is getting a giggle over all our speculation and discussions on it. 🙂

Marscaleb on 12/31/2019 @ 7:35 pm

Hardly. If it were the real Kat, she would try to make herself appear to be the AI. She’s being absent because she worries people are on to her. She’s not going to make herself known to anyone in the party. her motivation right now would be to look as much like an SI as possible; probably just let the AI run its course and only interfere with it when it is most important to do so.

RowenMorland on 12/31/2019 @ 8:38 pm

I also think Kat would find it hard to vocalize her motives.

Stacts on 01/02/2020 @ 12:38 pm

I am pretty convinced that this is not Kat. I don’t think is D either. I think this is an AI. I think the AIs used are derivatives of D and are associated to D, thus being subject to D’s influence.

pidgey on 01/06/2020 @ 10:59 pm

I think it can’t be an AI. It was pointed out above that an AI wouldn’t pay her back with a Kesti esone, but a Morto one (because she’s Morto, and an AI has no way of telling that she doesn’t want to be). Honestly I was super convinced it was an AI until that was brought up, but it’s a great piece of evidence to the contrary.

Dunno if it’s actually Kat or something else is going on, but I don’t think AI is on the table at this point.

Stacts on 01/15/2020 @ 12:18 pm

Please note the last segment of my comment: … thus being subject to D’s influence.

It’s possible that it’s an AI that has access to a limited portion of D’s data (and, further, that D may be able to selectively edit this access on the fly), thus creating the possibility that the AI would “know” that Danni is trying to go Kesti.

I really don’t think this is Keiko.

While I can site no reason, I dislike the idea that this is D.

Kale on 01/03/2020 @ 4:51 am

AI choosing actions based on her emotion “stats”?
Is that what they were called? Might need to go back to the beginning and reread that stuff.

Keybounce on 01/06/2020 @ 11:01 pm

I’m sorry. I look at the close up of the eyes (panel 3), and conclude “Human”.

Kat/Kleya may have a reason to pretend to be an AI — is she going to (try to) go hide again? — but I really think it’s her.
