Objective achieved, & totally worth it, Aneeka!

Bwahaha! Now it’s even trying to kill Kat’s closest companion. How can the AI programming be this extreme? “The erbana has gone kill crazy! Nothing suspicious about that…” Shouldn’t there be a replacement AI for each class?

Changer on 10/22/2019 @ 7:42 am

It is strange, when you think about it. Many AI shown before were capable of passing as human. This AI seems to be the least capable one we’ve seen, though presumably it is used to perfectly emulate missing players who are directly in the spotlight with large swaths of the population watching it. I am suspicious if, perhaps, this AI is emulating Kat particularly poorly for some deliberate purpose.

Someone designed this one to madden the virus perhaps and thinks they can prove that maligning Kat causes it to manifest?

Drgnhawk on 10/22/2019 @ 4:57 pm

Actually, it could be part of the crazy plan that requires the virus AKA “D” to mistake someone else for Keiko and start serving them. If I recall correctly, the theory is that A) Keiko is actually dead, and B) D wants someone “arrogant, cruel, and ruthless” to follow. (link: https://navcomic.com/not-a-villain/page-589/ ) Remember, one of the high-ups in Tenka is convinced that “the Kat user” is not Kleya, but might be a good pawn to throw at the virus problem – or at least, threaten/pretend to throw at the virus problem. There is the fact that technically she does not have a class at the moment. While she does have Herbana “experience” it is the Esone that determines their current class and some of the abilities they can equip. So the AI might just be running off of “no class” at the moment. (as they did mention that it would prioritize getting an esone)

So, is the AI trying to flip Danny and kill her, or grab her and run? It depends on the intricacy of the emotion stats. I think there’s been enough Kat-Danny interaction to establish a desire to protect, or even take a bullet for, Danny. But it could also simply be a case of seeing Danny as yet another morto, and going for a martial-artsy kill.

Nystran on 10/22/2019 @ 12:21 pm

Everybody is talking about Kat-Danny interaction and the AI understanding concepts like friends. Did I miss a panel where this was explained? How do we know the AI was not programmed for single players, and has a strong preference for a (for the AI) easy morto path?

Mostly a Lurker on 10/23/2019 @ 9:29 am

“How do we know the AI was not programmed for single players…”
Actually, we don’t know it wasn’t because we know it was. More simply, we know it was programmed for single players, while groups – at least 5 person groups – are not coded into the game (see page 730).

“… the AI understanding concepts like friends.”
In the same page, they also discuss the emotional stats, which is what the AI relies on to understand connections between people. They even say outright the AI will seek friends, but also that it doesn’t recognize any of them as friends based on the interactions done so far.

“…preference for a (for the AI) easy morto path?”
In the following page, (page 731) they also mention that as the character currently lacks an Esone, its Herbana alignment no longer applies, and that it is indeed likely the AI will try to go for Morto.

However, I’ll point out that Word Of God: “Public notice: Don’t yank people when they’re not ready to be yanked” seems to imply that the yanking was not intended as an attack despite all of the above. Might be wrong about that one, though. The Word Of God is sometimes difficult to interpret.

Thanks, Mostly

Based on the chapter note, I think Kat was trying to grab and run, but Danny wasn’t prepared for it.

…for some stupid reason I think D’s in control.

Iron Ed on 10/22/2019 @ 3:19 pm

I think that’s the -real- Kat, and she’s trying to get Danni out of what she sees as a dangerous situation. Kat may also trying to get Danni away to some place private where she can ask Danni questions about what she may know of Bandit’s behavior.

AceOfSword on 10/26/2019 @ 2:18 pm

I doubt that’s Kat, because Kat would be aware of the possibility of falls being potentially lethal in this gravity. And unless she’s decided to change her style and that killing people is okay now she wouldn’t have pushed Jane away like she did.

Jerander on 10/24/2019 @ 10:37 am

What if the AI is using Danni as a weapon/attack either swinging her legs to hit Dude or Mary or the throw her at them?
