I’m getting smug amusement from panel 3. Hopefully that’s what you were going for lol. The bit with the emotional stats is interesting, I wonder if that affects the way their characters behave when they’re logged off the same way or if this dedicated AI just reacts more strongly to it? Hm.

Nikary Flare on 07/23/2019 @ 4:29 am

That smile in panel 3 😀

How interesting. It’s almost as if they’re trying to hide something there. With Jane all off on her own and how she’s a little TOO close to Sandra.. Both of them being happy about this makes me wonder if these two are part of the spy group that the one programmer who put the portal there or something.

It kinda lines up because their group started there and Sandra knew about it. She’d tell Jane and Jane would “go off on her own” and use the portal if needed. Plus with Jane being Bloody Mary, her channel won’t have many viewers I bet, so nobody would be watching her.

I could be wrong about how that works, but it makes a bit of sense to me.

Zigraphix on 07/23/2019 @ 7:03 am

What makes you think Jane’s character wouldn’t have many viewers? I’m betting she’s got one of the most popular channels.

Killianti on 07/23/2019 @ 10:12 am

The last time we saw her ratings, they were really low.

SiliconWolf on 07/23/2019 @ 10:14 am

I seem to recall someone in the comic stating that there were too many heroes in the game. Combine that with Jane’s flamboyant play style and crazy acting? She’s probably one of the top channels.

SlugFiller on 07/25/2019 @ 12:38 am

It’s already been established that Jane and Sandra are part of some conspiracy. At this point it was just a question of whether it’s the same conspiracy that made the portal, or if there are two separate independent conspiracies. Jane’s prior objections to the portal, whispering to Kat that she doesn’t want that portal, already suggested that she knows more than she’s letting on about it.

This smirk barely counts as confirmation for what we already know. I was already saying from the start that Sandra is just looking for a plausible excuse to have the group not sniff there too much.

Adoni-Zedek on 07/23/2019 @ 6:13 am

It’s interesting that Jane wants off the island, even though it gives her a bonus as a Morto.

Commissar_TC on 07/23/2019 @ 10:30 am

The facial expressions came across perfectly. You’re doing an awesome job portaying those subtle emotions

TokraZeno on 07/23/2019 @ 5:23 pm

I suspect it’s meant to be a smile/smirk that’s more subtle than Jane’s, but it comes across as more of “are you f***ing kidding me?”

That said, it’s an equally valid response given that Kat’s AI has a decent chance of blundering them into danger while trying to get away from them.

Kytheros on 07/23/2019 @ 9:22 pm

I don’t know that Bandit is completely right about how the AI would feel about Danni – IIRC, Kat and Danni each tried to save each other when Bandit tried to kill them. That might swing things in favor of friendship sooner than he expects … on the other hand, he should know what he’s talking about when it comes to Game mechanics.

GLJordan on 07/24/2019 @ 8:10 pm

not so much Dani not friend as Dani as ally not helpful (she too is esone less}

Puzzlebox on 07/25/2019 @ 7:27 pm

I just had a fairly horrifying thought. Bandit’s assessment is based on the assumption that Kat’s character can’t win against all four of them, but if it concludes that Danny and the Dude won’t interfere (logical) then it only has to worry about Bandit and Jane. If Kat has some ridiculous OP special as a trump card she was saving for a dramatic moment then the AI might try to take them out.

Nikary Flare on 07/26/2019 @ 3:35 pm

Can’t use Specials without an Esone.

Rowen Morland on 07/27/2019 @ 10:40 am

Yeah but if they chase her they might be around when the Ai gets an Esone.

Chronos on 07/23/2019 @ 11:31 pm

I get something like serene relief from panel 3

FatedDarkly on 07/24/2019 @ 1:16 am

Its coming out perfectly. LOVE YOU SANDRA!!! <3<3<3!!!

In before D hijacks the AI and does things completely different from what is expected of an AI. Or whatever the Dragon’s name is

Stacts on 07/24/2019 @ 11:43 am

I see a few possibilities for the upcoming arc, and I want to mention the improbable one first. Are we sure an AI is being assigned? Is it possible that a human will take over her character with only Tenka knowing about it? Alternatively, could the AI be controlled by remote actions from a person or team?

The AI could be a simple AI that will operate by following easy-to-understand code.

The AI could be some facet of D.

I’m not sure I believe that anything upcoming will convince Kat to return. I think direct action will be required of Bandit.

I assume that Bandit will have to find a way to contact directly Kat.
