‘Not A Villain’ Webcomic – Page 729

Please note: NAV will continue updating only on Tuesdays from now on.

Anybody have a guess? I'd give a hint but then you'd figure it out too easily.

I would think the reason it would be a bad idea for the AI controlling Kat to go after an Esone is because the Esones in the area they logged off in have been stated to likely be Morto. I assume acquiring one of them would require her to do something that would kill her 100% Erbana rating, especially since the two alignments seem to be completely opposed to each other (Morto grows by killing things, Erbana grows by preventing things from dying).

Atros on 07/18/2019 @ 10:07 am

Remember her 100% is already toast. It will still drop her even lower, but Danni’s “Death” (and probably her own) threw that 100% down the drain.

Rex Vivat on 07/16/2019 @ 3:59 am

No, Danni, finding an Esone is dangerous. What an Esone-less AI prioritizing survival will do is, most likely, cower in a hiding place.

Rex Vivat on 07/16/2019 @ 4:01 am

Alternatively: The closest source of Esones is the rest of the group.

Darkening on 07/16/2019 @ 8:34 am

Heh, that was my first thought. Hopefully not, since having an ai start teamkilling would probably piss off the player the character belongs to.

Tim C on 07/16/2019 @ 6:54 pm

This was my thought as well. They’re going to have the first thing that happens after the group logs in be intra-party PVP, two Games in a row.

Astra on 07/16/2019 @ 5:38 am

Let me guess – being in a company of violent and dangerous individuals would not be a good choice when looking for an Erbana esone. Not to mention didn’t we hear something about this area only having Morto esones? So, the Ai would likely to have to go somewhere further away.

Ooorah on 07/16/2019 @ 5:51 am

Because they’re going to be inserting into a dangerous island? Seems like exploring for resources independently of the group might be a bit dangerous.

Kara Noelle on 07/16/2019 @ 7:24 am

My guess is something that’s referred to prior: The esones on this place are Morto and Kat is an pure Erbana user. I don’t remember how this all works out, but they might have some sort of affect on your scores. I think it was stated that Morto people are getting boosted on this island so it makes some sort of sense.

Lunas on 07/16/2019 @ 5:00 pm

But the Ai would potentially play as kat has played so far. So if there is perhaps a way to get an erbana esone there she will do that so if that means she will hide and actively do erbana things she will. If however there are easy ways to get one perhaps the AI will do that d***ing the alignment class thing.

DragonMaster on 07/16/2019 @ 7:37 am

She may not have spoken aloud much, but her expressions spoke volumes. ESPECIALLY her evil smirks. I mean who wouldn’t be smirking when you one up the person who thought you were a useless “cute-thing”.

thefinalstair on 07/16/2019 @ 7:44 am

Agreed with Kara – the Esones are Morto and therefore will significantly change her stats when equipped. However the AI will still prioritize them so it will drag the group into unnecessary danger and ruin Kat’s approach.

Only Tuesday updates from now on? That’s kind of sad, I like the story and want to see it progress, but I guess there is nothing one can do about it.

I don’t think an AI can play Kat, she is reacting rather irrational in her attempts to be nice and a bad*ss at the same time. This just has to fail

Stevie-O on 07/16/2019 @ 5:22 pm

Kleya isn’t acting _irrational_, per se; rather, she’s acting on extremely limited information. She wants to be a good person, but she’s too unsocialized to understand how to do that. Furthermore, she’s not going to become well-socialized anytime soon, because she avoids other people out of fear of discovery. As such, she’s got a rather simple set of rules to follow:

– People think (her real-world identity) is a villain.
– Her instincts tend to lead to actions that most people consider villainous (i.e. “hacking”)
– The opposite of “villain” is “hero”
– To be a hero, you need to do heroic things
– Therefore, she needs to do heroic things
– And those things are the opposite of her instincts.

By extension:
– Heroes are nice, villains are mean
– Therefore, she must be nice, and not mean.
– Helping and healing is nice; hurting and killing is mean.
– Therefore, she must help and heal, not hurt or kill.

Furthermore:
– People don’t like villains, and actively want to harm them.
– People think (her real-world identity) is a villain
– Therefore, if people start associating her Kleya avatar with her real-world identity, they will actively want to harm her.
– Therefore, it is paramount that nobody learn her real-world identity.

Page 101 is a great example of this. Kleya gets frustrated with her fans and instinctively lashes out at them. Based on the “never do what your instincts say”, that should have been a bad thing, and starts chastising herself; she was surprised when Lilly was happy because Kleya sacrificed her own fans in favor of supporting her friend.

going with morto escones are useless so the ai will either stay put or try to leave island

Alexander The 1st on 07/18/2019 @ 12:59 am

My assumption, although perhaps I’m incorrect in how this can be done (I’d have to double check) is she might lash out and immediately steal an Esone, probably from one of the people who still have one.

Which…would be bad I’d KatAI decided to just steal one from the party members.

asdfadfs on 07/18/2019 @ 5:37 pm

the ai probably can’t do erbana well, bandit should play kat and have the ai play his character

StrykerC on 07/19/2019 @ 2:55 am

My guess is that an AI being part of the program knows exactly where the Esones are and will beeline for it, which presumably the players aren’t supposed to just know where those are that well (particularly on this island) which would reveal that an AI was being used pretty quick. Normally the AI probably act similar enough not to be an issue, but I’m guessing a player lacking an Esone hasn’t been taken over by an AI and wasn’t even considered as something likely to happen before now.

JonesNate on 07/19/2019 @ 7:32 am

I wonder if the AI will simply glitch out. Having no Esone essentially means the player is in-game dead. And the AI’s function is to keep the player alive, so…

Feartheswans on 07/19/2019 @ 3:03 pm

What if D reacts to her in-game character being played by another AI. That could be disasterous.

artificer-urza on 07/20/2019 @ 7:41 am

I wonder what defines an A.I.? How intellectually complex does it have to be before it is considered intelligent?
The ones Bandit had seemed quite human-like and had fooled many people.

Harmon on 07/21/2019 @ 7:56 am

This could get interesting if D replaces the TENKA A.I. Bandit is familiar with TENKA A.I. programs and will recognize abnormal behavior. So Bandit will have to direct suspicion away from D’s unusual actions. Kat may decide to replace D and take over her own character. I’m felling sorry for Bandit. lol
