She’s hones, sure, but she’s in a liiiittle bit over her head.
PS: is there a way to read the alt-text from mobile?

I seem to recall seeing the alt-text along with other information as well as the possible actions in a pop-up from a long touch of the image. But I just tried, on Android: Dolphin, Naked Browser, Chrome, Opera, Opera Touch, Brave, Firefox Beta and FOSS browser. None of them did it. It may have been when I was running Opera Mini on my Java-enabled Sony Ericsson Walkman phone… that is, more than ten years ago. Not a long touch then, but a long press of some button.

I might have dated myself very precisely now that I admitted to reading webcomics on mobile before smartphones 😀

You can see alt-text in Chrome for Android if it’s a plain img element, but this one’s wrapped in a link (to itself, for some reason) so it’s not visible.

When you mentioned what the html looks like I came up with a solution – if you have Termux installed, that is:
$ curl http://navcomic.com/ | grep webcomic-image
Someone finish that up with sed or awk or something like that to return the string after title= and we have a neat solution 🙂

This is what XPath is for:

$ curl http://navcomic.com/ | xmllint –html –xpath ‘string(//div[@class=”webcomic-image”]/a/img/@title)’ – 2>/dev/null

Maybe append `; echo` because it doesn’t include a newline.

It’s a link to itself because, when a new page is added, the link on what is being replaced as the newest page becomes a link to the new newest page. In other words, when the newest page is page n, the link around the image on page n points back to itself, but when page n+1 gets uploaded, the link on page n gets updated to point to page n+1. This allows people on systems where they can’t click consistently on the next page button to read through the backlog easily by just tapping the current page to go to the next page.

I also remember the long touch working, so I gave it a try, and it did work!

…just not on this site. It works when I try it on XKCD though. I use Chrome, for what it’s worth.

Brandon: “At least tell me you have a plan if she’s shellshocked and pale as a ghost.”

Jake: “Why would I need a plan for that? That won’t happen.”

swing and a miss! Bandit.

For the record, I do not object to walls-o-text. Congrats on meeting the challenge, though; compressing dialogue (especially when it’s expository) is very hard. 🙂

LOL – YAYYYY Danni! 🙂
