She isn’t evil, but she isn’t there either. Where is she? Off line? Uh oh.

mightycleric on 02/05/2019 @ 2:14 am

It will be interesting to see how Danni reacts to this. She obviously is trying to figure out if she did something wrong, and can’t understand how something she thought she did well was completely ignored, with this happening instead.

I’m curious to see how her conversation goes with Bandit. I wonder how much Bandit will reveal to her. I think he needs to reveal at least some, to her, to explain what is going on, and also because he will need Danni to try to deliver a message from him to Kat, letting Kat know that he already knew, and isn’t going to tell anybody.

I only hope that Bandit can recognize that he needs to give Kat that assurance, now that his immediate concern for his safety is alleviated.

I feel so much for Danni, though. Unlike SiliconWolf’s comment from last week, I do have a lot of sympathy for her. I recognize the fear about what she might do if she finds out who Kat really is, and I have concern for Kat, too, but my concern for Kat does not invalidate my sympathy for Danni, and the dire situation that she is in right now.

She has more sympathy, from me, than Kat, because we have seen no indication that she was at all to blame for the situation she is in, now. I do think Kat is a scapegoat, but she also did contribute, at least in some ways, to the situation the world is in, currently. Another reason she has more sympathy, is because she is the one closer to dying. Kat can hide her presence, and should certainly be able to avoid any attacks sent her way (especially since there are so many systems that still aren’t functioning for a lack of living programmers). But both have my sympathy, and my concern for one does not invalidate the concerns I have for the other.

Danni is working so hard to train and improve, because she needs to do so to survive. Now she has this added drama, that could drastically affect her chances of survival, through no fault of her own. My hope is that, because Kat knows that Danni’s life is on the line, that she is willing to listen to what Danni says (and thus a message Bandit sends through her), and that Kat and Bandit start working together (along with Dude) in such a way to really boost Danni’s popularity, and through that learn to trust each other even more.

He has to first come to the conclusion that she left because she’s afraid he’ll tell everyone. He wouldn’t really have to tell her though, she should have ways of knowing if he told people.

It would be interesting to see Danni’s reaction to knowing and she should know imo. Problem is, Bandit telling wouldn’t go well and he should at least know she wouldn’t like him telling people.

She may have been part of the cause of it all, but she has too much value to kill off if it can be reasoned that she’s trying to be good. With help, she could undo everything in far less time than currently possible. I’m kind of curious if this is why Bandit is trying to connect with her or if it is out of friendship? It still seems uncertain how close they really were before it all happened.

mightycleric on 02/05/2019 @ 2:19 pm

I think that is an easy conclusion for him to come to, with her disappearing. After all, he is certain that it is her, and that means she has survived even though most people that want to know where she is would try to kill her. He knows she wants to keep her identity a secret (even being afraid that she would kill him to keep that secret). I’m not sure she will stick around long enough to find out if he will tell anybody. She is assuming he will, so she will be at least considering leaving Kat behind and making a new person. He needs to tell her she doesn’t need to disappear again.

It will be interesting to see Danni’s reaction, but as I said before, I think he needs to tell her “some”, but not enough to tell Danni exactly who she is. He should be able to communicate the message that he knows who she is, and that he will keep her secret, but let Kat reveal her true identity to Danni, when she feels the time is right.

As I said, I do still have sympathy for Kat, and I don’t want her to die. I want her to gain redemption and to learn the whole backstory. I know that, if people were willing to trust her, that she could help things improve significantly, but it will be a long time before people trust her. To begin with, she will probably just have to help Bandit have “breakthroughs” in certain areas, and maybe even help outsiders without people knowing that she was the one who helped them.

As for why Bandit is trying to find her, it has to be based on his previous relationship with her. He believes she killed her mother, but also was convinced enough that she wasn’t evil to keep her identity hidden. If that wasn’t based on what he thought he knew of her, then why risk it, when he knows she is capable of killing him or even taking down cities? He may also believe that she is the best chance they have of recovering sooner (highly probable), but if he didn’t have faith in her, based on personal interactions, then he wouldn’t be willing to risk the destruction of what they have left.

Silly thoughts on 02/05/2019 @ 3:36 pm

One does not need to tell Danni everything for this to make sense to her. Just revealing kats hacked to help Danny and that bandit was being a douche with controlled missiles he called random. Would do. Hell if he’s smart he could probably reveal less. But I don’t think the situation has hit a point where Danny deserves to know her new besty is the same person everyone things ended the world. One does not fly to the moon without first building a rocket and a space suit.

Rowen Morland on 02/08/2019 @ 12:15 pm

Danni won’t be able to handle the idea that Kat hacked.

Lisa E Collins on 02/10/2019 @ 12:25 pm

I think there are spies if they talk there and they would have to find someplace sound proof, and secure. I also think she would freak out too much to be careful after that confronting kat, and she will find it too hard to resist not saying anything at all.

mightycleric on 02/12/2019 @ 12:52 am

There shouldn’t be spies here, as it is an area that Bandit controls, and he wouldn’t allow for spies. He has talked openly with Dude about who Kat really is in his own controlled space, so he clearly doesn’t believe there are any spies. So if he feels comfortable talking to Dude about her, then he should also feel comfortable talking to Danni about her (unless he believes that Danni would tell others who Kat is, which I don’t think he does).

Pat on 02/05/2019 @ 2:43 am

Not evil…. yet! Someone someday will push her too far.

Rex Vivat on 02/05/2019 @ 8:27 am

…Again.

Alena on 02/05/2019 @ 2:49 am

Bandit didn’t seem too confident about her not being evil just a moment ago.
Also someone better say something to Kat before she runs away for good

Marscaleb on 02/05/2019 @ 4:07 am

OMG THE EVIL IS KILLING US ALL!! Oh wait nothing happened? SHE ISN’T EVIL I KNEW IT!

Brian Holt on 02/05/2019 @ 9:52 am

Missed an opportunity. The last line should have been “She’s not a villain!”

zophah on 02/05/2019 @ 10:54 am

Perfect time for a title drop.

Guest on 02/05/2019 @ 3:13 pm

Well spotted! Although…
Title drops are cool and all, but I think that the phrasing would have been awkward. Evil is more of a property and villain is more of a title, it would have been off?

Iron Ed on 02/05/2019 @ 11:25 am

Love the last two panels, Aneeka!

Steve on 02/05/2019 @ 1:25 pm

I wonder why she doesn’t hack her image so she can walk around invisible and spy on Bandit?

friendlymosquito on 02/05/2019 @ 4:30 pm

Well it seems that he can see her hacks, so I doubt she’d be able to hide from him that way.

Marduk on 02/05/2019 @ 7:27 pm

Because he can see the code just like she can, and he’ll notice if she does something like that. Most coders/hackers would notice actually and she’d probably be hunted down by Tenka.

Guest on 02/07/2019 @ 1:58 pm

He would still have to notice it though. Maybe she could disguise herself as a roaming musical effect? She should be able to make her code tight enough that it would look normal unless he attempted to look at its data. That could certainly happen though, if she were bad at tailing people and was obviously following him, which she probably is. I imagine that her experience with “stealth” comes from games with somewhat arbitrary stealth mechanics…

Archangel on 02/06/2019 @ 7:33 am

It’s almost like she’s… not a villain.

(Seriously, nobody else has made this joke yet?)
