What an anticlimactic resolution to this situation, Keiko just leaves the room in her trademark abrupt-but-not-dramatic way. Note however what Jake notes in panel 2, this can still be considered progress…

You know, relatively speaking.

friendlymosquito on 12/11/2018 @ 10:29 am

Bandit: ‘At least she hasn’t left.’
Kat: I’m leaving.

😛

She definitely has to flee now because she always finds the easy way out before she has to excuse why she doesn’t answer the fast flow of questions. Also, sometimes when you answer one question, you find it raises more questions and so on causing a ripple effect that will ether cause her to be caught in a bunch of incriminating suspicions that some of them already had of her hacking the system and being that villian their looking for. She can’t have them suspect her when she’s trying to be the hero she’s trying to live up to, to prove to her old villainess self that she lives by a new code and can’t risk being caught so yeah, she has to find a subject changer everytime they do this to her so leaving works too.

Steve on 12/11/2018 @ 5:56 pm

She hasn’t left yet… they may still convince her to stay. 🙂

If only Bandit could enlist D to help keep her there.

Don’t leave, Kat! Emotional support is important!

Kittenykat on 12/11/2018 @ 2:32 am

Awww, KleyaKat don’t be discouraged! D: Friends don’t require you to be Mr. Miyagi. Just for you to be *there* helps!

Lina on 12/11/2018 @ 3:25 am

But Kaaaat…
She *wants* you to tell her what to do! That isn’t useless! That’s more than enough!
Learning is hard XD

Dragon Master on 12/11/2018 @ 7:58 am

Hey Kat’s learning! that’s a good sign, she recognizes temptation and is removing herself from it. Progress!

noisyparker on 12/11/2018 @ 10:46 am

The opportunity is there for her to work on some interesting insights… I hope she can make that step.

Tom on 12/11/2018 @ 11:59 am

Why is it that not hacking is so difficult for her? Is it based off of brain waves rather than logical thought coupled with concerted effort to make or change code?

Is she supposed to be some sort of idiot-savant that has no control over her actions in a computer simulation?

The difficulty of not hacking seems on par with controlling a bodily function, like not breathing through your nose… ever…

Anyways, just something I’m curious about.

Pete on 12/11/2018 @ 12:41 pm

I suspect routine hacks are done by routines that already exist and actually do just require a thought to trigger. No matter how genius you are you can’t hack in real time human simply can’t act or even think that fast so preset routines or actions of her virus are the only realistic options.

Steve on 12/11/2018 @ 6:05 pm

Have you never wanted to push someone aside and do something for them? Like someone taking forever to cook or build something or take what seems like hours to type or click something on a computer. The temptation to “help” another person who is infuriatingly slow or inept is just too much sometimes. 🙂

Jindra34 on 12/11/2018 @ 6:18 pm

And lets add that she pretty much always has the compound hacking program D in her head, eager to help solve problems, thanks to the implants. Discipline is very much a skill she needs to learn. And running at the first sign of adversity will never teach her that.

David on 12/11/2018 @ 8:22 pm

As far as I can tell, for the ease of doing things extremely quickly, D listens directly to her thoughts. It seems like it’s on-par with a bodily function because it is – that’s how easy it is for her to modify the world, and that’s how hard it is to not do that when she wants to.

It’s like hearing something loud behind you and not looking over your shoulder – she wants to help, but even looking in at what’s happening is technically “hacking” and viewing the world’s code.

maeverin on 12/12/2018 @ 7:56 am

Being able to control reality + the constant tug of needing to be the very best, the best there ever was, AND make sure everyone knows it is a very hard combo to resist.

Robert on 12/12/2018 @ 7:03 am

Kat’s confusion is that she sees everything and everyone as something she has to fix. She doesn’t understand that it isn’t her responsibility to MAKE her good. She can only provide guidance to let her maker herself good. But, she see’s everything as a program that needs to be fixed.

pidgey on 12/14/2018 @ 9:17 am

Kat needs to read more. Books are unhackable and full of characters that learn infuriatingly slowly. It would be great practice for her.

SiliconWolf on 12/17/2018 @ 4:29 pm

uh, oh. I can see it now.
Kat looks for book. Finds book.
10 pages later, the book author suddenly finds themselves overdrawn, evicted from their residence, and has 17 unpaid fines for littering.
And it wouldn’t matter if it’s an ebook or a paper book. Books connect to publishing companies. Publishing companies connect to banking accounts. Banking accounts connect to government identification databases.
