Oh. Dear.

Dragon Master on 08/17/2018 @ 6:03 am

J**** … I don’t even know what to say about parenting like that. No wonder she has issues. Sounds like she was expected to be the very best at whatever she did, and failure was not allowed.
On that note do we even know what her “Reality” name is? Her L.I.F.e. name is Kleya Smith IIRC, and Game name is Kat, but I don’t think we’ve ever learned her original name.

Nine on 08/17/2018 @ 1:10 pm

No we have not been clued-in on her name in reality… well that Woman who first appeared on page 336 called her β€œthe cyborg”

Dragon Master on 08/20/2018 @ 4:46 pm

Well thats a title more than anything else, sure it was an identifier because she was the only one, but it was not her name.

Evilbob on 08/17/2018 @ 7:08 am

That’s… uh…

And now it’s little wonder why she turned out as messed up as she was.

Jindra34 on 08/17/2018 @ 5:39 pm

Its starting to become a wonder she ONLY turned out this messed up.

Alex on 08/18/2018 @ 8:22 am

You mean “only messed up enough to cause the apocalypse”? πŸ˜€

Jindra34 on 08/18/2018 @ 12:08 pm

ONCE. And I’m thinking there is a lot more story behind that than we’ve seen. Something just feels off about the whole story. I can’t put my finger exactly on what though.

GLJordan on 08/20/2018 @ 11:06 pm

actually it is debatable how much if any she really had to do with what went down. the natural disasters were probably just that. Kleya has pretty much came out and said that her father spun thing and made her a bad guy. deconstruct me is probably more myth than reality. something happen
her mother and she blames her I don’t lose on it attitude fo it but even their truth is not known

Meta on 08/17/2018 @ 7:35 am

finally getting to the interesting stuff : )

Iron Ed on 08/17/2018 @ 5:32 pm

So far, I’ve found the whole comic “interesting”! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

friendlymosquito on 08/17/2018 @ 7:13 pm

I am HERE for this backstory!!! *gets the popcorn*

GLJordan on 08/18/2018 @ 12:15 am

just because you were paid didn’t mean she didn’t like you. at least going by past comics especially If she didn’t knw you were paid

Alex on 08/18/2018 @ 8:21 am

Wow. That was a juicy reveal. Makes me wonder if any of the other four shmot guys/gals will show up eventually, possibly in a funny hat with a flame on top. (see Girl Genius) I hope that at least one of them was smart enough to not get killed.

Could it be that the other three that got a shot were either too nice or too snobbish and that Bandit with his bad boy machismo was accepted, because she could punish him for his attitude and he would accept defeat instead of complaining about her cheating?

3-I on 08/18/2018 @ 2:46 pm

Hey-! NIZE HAT!

Rowen Morland on 08/19/2018 @ 9:47 am

His Bandit persona might be a more recent thing. Jake, irl, wants everyone to like him, he might have been more like that with her.

Also, those other four probably didn’t get through both the apocalypse AND the hacker hunts and there is a strong possibility that they were behind the Deconstruct ME group, especially if Kleiya didn’t do most of the stuff or was trying to prevent some of it.

Genius on 08/18/2018 @ 9:13 pm

Find the best friends possible for your kid, and then let your kid select for themselves which ones they like. Isn’t that what all good parents do?

;P

Keybounce on 08/20/2018 @ 2:54 pm

Actually, that does sound about what good parents do. The real question isn’t that they had to pay Jake to spend time with Kleya. Having to spend money to get Jake to spend the time initially is one thing; if Jake actually likes Kleya, and wants to spend time with her (you know, actually becoming a friend) then all is good.

The real question is, did Jake become enough of a friend that if the parents were to say “we’re no longer going to pay you”, would Jake continue to want to spend time with her?

It’s one thing if her parents say up front, “we’ll pay you for 3 months to spend time and see if you can become friends”. It something else if her parents say, “we’ll continue to pay you for as long as you spend time as her friend”.

Backflash time is the most important of the day. You need a nourishing backflash for plotting on.
Some like meat on their backflash, but others are more into to juicy stuff. Both are fine, as long as you watch out for freeze brain from the fridge realisation.

Daisy on 08/19/2018 @ 12:35 pm

Good plan, Bandit, seduce her! As if that would work.
