I think her newbie persona is just fine. She’s blunt and klutzy, like a combo of my two favorite ponies Applejack and Derpy. 🙂
Don’t tell her that, though. As a ballerina she might take issue.

Mouseless on 02/23/2018 @ 6:59 am

It’s fine for us since we are learning about the game with her, but i can imagine how frustrating it must be for all the people who has spend countless hours watching other people play and know the game inside out.

Alex on 02/23/2018 @ 2:36 pm

Frustrated players create conflict which creates ratings. 🙂

As someone who does a lot of watching other people play games, who is herself a gamer, who associates with many others, I can promise you that my experience is that someone who sucks at a game when you know how to play it is irritating in the same way listening to someone play piano for the first time is irritating – there’s a level of pain in there. In watching a Let’s Play where the player is just sucking and I either know or conceive that I could do way better (even if I couldn’t), the only thing I really want is to yank the controller out of their hands and fix it so I don’t have to watch them suck anymore. (If in person, where I could actually yank the controller away, it’s so super rude I wouldn’t actually do it. I just try to remind myself it’s not about me, it’s about them having fun…but it still FEELS that way.) So…no, I’m with Bandit here. N00b player “persona” is a huge problem because it’s not fun to watch, at all.

A Quiet Reader on 02/25/2018 @ 10:30 pm

Good point. On the other hand, she’s only one member of a team of players. Viewers will also be watching her experienced teammates do well, not just her learning how to play. As long as she doesn’t take to long to catch on, her being the only newbie could lead to some interest because of possible comedic moments.

Draken on 02/24/2018 @ 3:54 am

Correct. However, you don’t want to frustrate your viewers. Especially since any bothering to pay for a new team are likely pretty serious about watching the Game already.

Iron Ed on 02/23/2018 @ 10:14 pm

Especially about the ‘Derpy’ part? 😉

Privilege call for Mr. Bandit, Mr. The Bandit please come to the nearest white courtesy phone and check your f***ing privilege…

Just_IDD on 02/23/2018 @ 5:45 am

Dani has issues. Period. The game, her city, her health, her art. I’m sure there are others that she has issues with that she doesn’t know she ‘needs’ to have issues with.

Seems there might be something up with Saisuke… maybe he’s just an actor, and he’s not in the real game, he’s just in a private server where everything is scripted so he wins every encounter he has… kind of a reality tv type of thing, where the character of the performers is more important than the actual task they are performing…

Dana L on 02/23/2018 @ 7:57 am

I don’t know why, but I got the impression (probably wrong) that Saisuke was another “persona” of Jake’s

Krahazik on 02/23/2018 @ 8:35 am

Or it could be that he has been in long enough that he doesn’t need to act or have fights scripted for him. Kind of like watching a level 80 warrior in an MMO adventurinjg in a level 50 zone. Watching said warrior from a seperate camera view without the benefit of the HUD info, everything will look incredibly easy for that character.

SiliconWolf on 02/23/2018 @ 9:53 am

Actually, I have a suspicion that Saisuke is actually an NPC. I also suspect that Saisuke has a mission of great importance….

Daisy on 02/23/2018 @ 6:18 am

Hey bluntness is why I like her! Tell him, Danni!

Snoots on 02/23/2018 @ 10:39 am

When people need The Game to survive… it ceases being a game.

Alex on 02/23/2018 @ 2:37 pm

It’s literally a Hunger Game.

Ophidiophile on 02/23/2018 @ 11:17 am

I can just image how difficult it is to program perfectly unkempt hair in computer graphics.

Propaganda is always free for the masses.

Storyteller on 02/23/2018 @ 3:45 pm

Bandit just doesn’t get that as busy as Tenka may be confronting the virus others outside are trying to stay alive does he? Danni may be a city dweller but she can’t be the only person whose at risk of being deported (like say if something chops off a limb)/shut off of life support. Kleya is better at thinking people through the him. She’s terrible at people but she can think it through.

Rowen Morland on 02/24/2018 @ 6:39 pm

Jake is painfully aware of what is happening, he has probably looked at and worked on the predictions for every city failing and has been privy to the various estimates for when they will go dark.

kit ramos on 02/25/2018 @ 9:51 pm

well with the comment he made about the channels I do believe he honestly thought most people do subscribe to more then one channel unless they are they are a total fanboy. And then when Danni pointed out, that she doesn’t watch just his channel because she doesn’t care about the others, but instead because it’s the only one she can afford. and he’s all like, I never thought about that but don’t want to admit it.

Nidhögg on 02/23/2018 @ 6:08 pm

Jane: I need the cat to kill The Game to save the world
Kat: I…… need to think about it

Danni: I hate The Game!
Kat: I’ll have it destroyed by yesterday

Iron Ed on 02/23/2018 @ 10:17 pm

I was thinking that Jane needs to have a chat with Danni. 🙂

kit ramos on 02/25/2018 @ 10:12 pm

heh, I don’t think it would be that simple. though I’d agree that Kat is far more likely to do it if Dani was also pulling for it. Still she has good (to her at least) reasons to keep the game going. And She does realize that simply killing the game would not solve the problem that Jane hopes it would, in many cases it would likely end up making the problem much worse. So even in best case she’d still be the villan to all the people who now lost their main (or possibly only) source of income. This is why Kat has to stop and think about it. Not so much because she totally distrusts what Jane is telling her, but because she knows that people rely on the game and if what Jane is hinting at is true then even more so then she thought. That’s what’s got Kat in such a tizzy over this. the realization that if Jane is telling the truth she’s pretty much in a catch 22 situation. If she does shut down the game the resulting power/job vacuum it’ll create will cause the death or complete ruin of a massive amount of people. while those problems will not be directly caused by the game shutting down it will be a side effect of the lost of income that so many depended on from the game. But on the other hand if she keeps playing the game knowing that there’s a growing number of people who are spending less time taking care of irl problems and more time focused on the game that soon enough many of those people will be just as bad off just for different reasons that are still ultimately caused by the game.

GLJordan on 02/26/2018 @ 10:27 pm

as amusing as it is. unfortunately Dani will not long outlive the game and sadly she knows it. as does Kleya/Kat

A Quiet Reader on 02/25/2018 @ 10:24 pm

1. He actually thought she was just acting?!

2. While it could be seen as rude, even if he didn’t know she can’t afford other channels, I’m not sure what about his tone could be seen as smug…

3. Good job, as always. I especially like Danni’s pose in the third panel.

Kin on 02/26/2018 @ 11:16 pm

I wonder… would a playstyle of REAL programmers (and city leaders) talking about reality issues while casually playing the game sell? It would be very different after all. And probably a bit more fun than just lecturing.
