Some random health advice from a semi-germaphobe*:

Watching people wash their hands drives me nuts since so few do it right. Understand that soap, by itself, doesn't necessarily kill viruses/bacteria on the spot. The idea is to make your skin slippery enough to slide the germs off. You need to produce a good soap lather (that's the soapy suds/bubbles) and then scrub/rub your hands (in particular the tips of the fingers where you touch stuff the most) for several seconds (preferably over 20) to convince the germs to get off your skin and down the drain.

Also, your cell/mobile phone is practically a petri dish with how much you touch it with unwashed hands. Make an effort to disinfect it before touching it with washed hands or you'll defeat the purpose of washing your hands in the first place.

But most of all, don't touch your face with unwashed hands! That's the easiest way for germs to get inside and wreak havoc on your system.

Another note: Social media turns the world into a tiny town where rumors/disinformation spread like wild fire and no one knows what's truly going on. If you get your news mainly through social media, please realize during crises like this, you're basically listening to the world's gossip.

We survived the 2009-2010 pandemic of H1N1 without most people even knowing it was going on; we can survive this one despite everyone knowing what's going on this time.

Oh, and D would like to add that no amount of hand-washing a computer or phone will disinfect it of a digital virus.

*I only become obsessed with germs when I'm in a household with a contagious sickness present, am shaking a lot of hands, or am traveling in a country that has common diseases I've never heard of.
