Don’t worry so much! She has a clearly-established record of leaving survivors, you could be one of the lucky few! Some of your friends and family might even be amongst them! She might even be too bored to bother flooding your training-space with spyware for when she isn’t around to personally examine your browsing history!

Seems to be Jake could be “not a jerk” without revealing who he is….

I think the big problem is him presenting as “Not annoying” would itself be a trigger that he’s acting very differently than normal, and properly paranoid Kleya would almost certainly take that as a sign that not only is he who she thinks he is, but that he knows who she is.

Right now, he’s just barely not crossing the line of her knowing that he knows who she is, and is apprehensive of expecting her to not let him know she knows he knows who she is. Because he usual behavior is very overt if that ends up the case.

So she knows who he is, but he doesn’t know she knows. And he knows who she is, but she doesn’t know he knows. My, what a knowledgeable pair they are.

It almost seems like the setup for a Shakespearean comedy.

I can’t help but recall a sci-fi rpg where we were hunting down our criminal dopplegangers. Of course, we’re wanted by the police because they don’t know about the dopplegangers, and kind of have a shoot first and keep shooting attitude, so it’s not like we can talk to them.
We’re under cover disguised as a security team.
One of our dopplegangers is hiding in a bar, but we don’t want him to go into hiding in a secret room we suspect, so someone makes the suggestion to flush him out by the fire alarm going off so everyone evacuates.
Might work, so our hacker (player isn’t a techie in real life, and hasn’t played a hacker in any game before) fires up his remote access. Rather than cyberattack the buildings lightly defended fire alarm system, he instead tries to take on the entire city security and response system, a VERY HIGHLY defended system.
Needless to say, that doesn’t go over very well. Good thing we can improvise decently.
Another time late, he’s gotten a bit better. To help avoid implicating our ship when he’s doing stuff from that, he developed a system to shunt things through a nearby ship so it looks like any cybercrime activity is coming from that other ship.
Great idea! So the next time he goes to poke around sensitive files, he doesn’t bother to use it to set up a patsy. We launched under fire from by multiple ships that time.
What can I say but the best laid plans of mice and who the heck spilled coffee on my keyboard again!?
