Jane has me confused here

Katie on 06/03/2025 @ 1:01 pm

C’mon, Jake, you can do better than that.

friendlymosquito on 06/03/2025 @ 2:19 pm

Become immortal Danni. It is your destiny 😀

Wonder how many viewers would be angered by this
Aka
1. She lucks into the game
2. But in their 1st session loses her Esone.
3. Now, in their 2nd session, she happens upon a pile of Esones (allowing her to stay & become OP)
= Mary Sue much?

Alexander The 1st on 06/04/2025 @ 4:40 am

I mean, their team went from being at odds with each other (And continuing to be at odds with each other at times.) to sort of setting up factions, and encountering unexpected hidden areas and discovering all sorts of hidden secrets like secret portals, and ways to get 100s of Esones, sorted by teams

It’s probably more that she’s clearly on an experienced team, since the others are expected to be experienced, and…getting super overpowered.

She’s not a Mary Sue – she’s being heavily carried by the rest of her team and pulling them together *somehow*.

I dunno. Her being so unpredictable, especially with her being a novice in a group full of veterans that can keep her from going down like a chump, would make for pretty good entertainment, I feel. It also feels like the viewers are used to only seeing veteran players of the game all the time, so getting to watch a newbie be fostered in a party of veterans could be a narrative angle they just haven’t seen before.

> her being a novice in a group full of veterans that can keep her from going down like a chump, would make for pretty good entertainment

Agreed 🙂
And also, uhm. Jake is mentoring her but still keeping to his persona. That persona is well known and he’s competent enough to be able to keep up the illusion -except- Danni is at this point going f-all at his pretenses and I think that might be hilarious to watch, too.

I mean he’s the supposed expert and she’s a complete newbie fumbling through some basics but she’s showing him spine regardless and at times utter contempt.
I’d be entertained, me.

Actually the whole group dynamic is so unstable that the tension of what happens next must have a lure of its own, too.

wording jake, wording *facepalm*
though, for the viewers, Danni probably got a lot more interesting 🙂

Also, Aneeka, I think it’s great that you can keep the new schedule, and I’m so happy things are looking up in your life 🙂 you deserve it 🙂

CrushU on 06/04/2025 @ 7:48 am

Nothing really relevant to say except that I’m glad to see this continuing. 🙂

Alex on 06/04/2025 @ 1:56 pm

He should’ve said something like:
“Danni, an A.I. will be doing the guarding using your character, i.e. a program that actually knows how the game’s physics work.” 🙂

Btw. Kat’s A.I. was able to deliver a hefty double-kick to a charging Jane despite her Erbana character probably not being the heaviest of hitters, what with her wanting to be “Nice Incarnate”, so I think if an A.I. controls a character with actual fighting capabilities it can manage just fine. I mean, if any party could just be wiped out by a party of 5 while they’re resting with only one character on guard duty then parties would get sniped left and right, so the only explanation for this not happening that I can come up with is that guard A.I.s are really really really good at the game. Or the admins simply punish parties that attack logged out parties of course. Like they did with Bloody Mary, that she killed her own people, so that might’ve been different.

You tell him, Danni.

GLJordan on 06/07/2025 @ 9:43 am

yeah new page

Seswu on 06/08/2025 @ 12:54 am

It’s nice to see a new page – I’ve been wondering what has been going on with the schedule. It used to be tuesdays, like it says in the banner, and then there was the hiatus, in which no updates at all happened; okay.

When the comic picked up again (which, y’know, yay ^.^), dates were announced in advance for next update, generally it seemed to be along the lines of ‘somewhere in the beginning of next month’.

At his point there’s no announcements but new comics seem to happen according to that pattern – so is it ‘probably somewhen next month’ or is it maybe more elaborate like ‘second tuesday of each month’ or something?

Seswu on 07/07/2025 @ 4:10 am

Ah, I see a prediction for next comic now, thanks! 🙂

And.. indeed looks like second tuesday might be a thing so that’s when I’ll look in, but I take it things are still difficult and/or in logistical flux, so I’ll refrain from having Expectations or some such :] Best wishes with or without updates happening :>

I have returned. And re-read almost the entire thing in one sitting tonight.

I am sorry for all the pain you went through, and three years. I am glad you are back to writing, drawing, and sharing.

A Quiet Reader on 06/08/2025 @ 5:42 pm

Not a bad art month at all; this page looks really good!

Alexander The 1st on 06/11/2025 @ 8:16 pm

You know, re-reading this page, it made me think of something – wouldn’t “Guard Danni” be just as likely to kick Bandit when he logs back in, under the pattern of being spooked?

That seems like a potential risk that Jake hasn’t thought about.

19Trees on 06/12/2025 @ 12:50 am

Good to see Not a Villain updating >^.^<

Remember to take the time you need. I really enjoy this amazing story and am impressed by the art work time and time again. Take care of your health both physical and mental, no need to rush or push too hard. Hopefully producing this comic will both get easier again over time and help you heal.

Meerling on 07/02/2025 @ 12:17 am

Hmmm….
Yeah, I’m at a loss about Jane as well.

Has she gone rogue and ditched the party.
Has she gone psycho and is planning to kill the party like at least some of them suspect.
Is this some kind of ruse?

From what we’ve already seen we can be pretty positive that somebody from the company is manipulating her, but is that unrelated to her current actions, dictated by that ****, or part of an attempt to get out from under their thumb…

Of course to further complicate things, we’ve got the attackers party which I do believe were ‘hired’ to take out the protagonists party, or at least specific members of it.
There’s also the portal that took them to this place that shouldn’t be there.
The lack of cameras is a big that’s not supposed to happen kind of situation.
And the secret room with the mega stash of esones. You’d think the basic game inventory maintenance would have flagged a cache that big, and it’s pretty unbelievable that it could be procedurally generated by the game, so somebody had to have made it, not to mention have somehow collected all those esones in the first place.

Well crud… It’s been a while and I forgot all about D. I wonder what’s up with that digital dragon these days, specifically this game day 😉

iJedi on 07/04/2025 @ 2:19 am

Yay! We’re back!
I’m so sorry for your loss, and I hope that getting back to something resembling “normal” helps.

Lord Torath on 10/10/2025 @ 7:12 am

I love Danni’s expression in the last panel!
