Mary

What? No. No no no no no no no no no no no no no no T_T

Mary

By the way, this whole page is beautifully done and the dialogue is spaced perfectly in the second to last panel. You can just hear her sad resignation and trying to make it into something good but she’s still about to burst into tears. I’m about to burst into tears.

Hanna

So she’s paralyzed or in near-coma or something in real life. A bit harsh, though, that she’d be killed off for wasting resources. Now more than ever I want to know what’s going on in Reality, is Earth really that inhabitable, or are they living on the Moon or something? Space stations?

APStorm

Do you mean ‘uninhabitable’ ..?

Hanna

Yes, thank you, my fingers at the “un” from that word. Teaches me to think 2 thoughts ahead of what I’m writing. XD

Hanna

And again… “ate”, not “at”. I probably should just stop typing now.

HalfTangible

It’s been stated outright that the earth – for the most part – is wiped out, and it’s heavily implied that everything outside of the cities is inhospitable.

From the character creation extras, we know that outsiders MUST be on earth, and that some areas are safer than others. Outsiders also have to deal with a lack of air, implying either that the earth has shattered into pieces or most plant life is dead.

HalfTangible

Sorry, not EARTH, the human race.

Hanna
Yeah, it’s the “no air” part that really puzzles me. I’d understand if it was “no breathable air”, but it’s highly unlikely for a planet the size of earth to completely lose its atmosphere – or, rather, lose it and not replace it with something else. Additionally I’m puzzled with how the city people can have farms outside the cities, if there’s no air (again I think it’s just that the air there is, isn’t breathable), and how the Outsiders can exist at all. Is it just that the Outsiders exist in ruins of cities or something, and basically scavenge… Read more »
Elizabeth
I think “oxygen” has been mentioned, so you may be right, there’s atmosphere but it’s not very breathable. A massive solar flare could strip away a lot of the atmosphere (and would kill most life on the planet), but our sun is supposedly too stable at this point for such an event. If thee really is no atmosphere somehow, the Cities could still have hydroponic farms under domes or in caves. But maybe the carbon dioxide has risen to the level that the atmosphere is toxic to humans– the plants would still be fine, as long as they have sunlight… Read more »

If there ever was a time to use the powers of hacking for good, it is now. It’s what a hero with the ability to hack would do Keyla, please realize that.

Elizabeth

I don’t see any way hacking can help in this situation. Danni’s physical body is in a world that doesn’t apparently want to support it anymore. Kleya can’t hack that away.

techkid

Wow… Danni. This is one sad piece. Hope that whatever Kleya is planning works out.

Elizabeth

I think that counts as heroic… But I don’t think Danni will last very long in the Game.without at least one ally.

Artificer-Urza

And how do you think forfeiting is going going to help?

Hanna

Because Danni was the last runner-up. If any of the 5 “winners” had been banned or had forfeited the whole competition, then she would’ve gotten into the team. If Kleya CAN forfeit her place in the team now that she’s already gotten it, then they might have to take Danni, and then her city people might give her more time to live.

EndsBeginning

She can always kick out waterman. Remember there was a choice to remove him from the group that Kleya ignored to see Danni. She actually doesn’t have to forfeit.

justAnobody

And i was starting to fear that i was the only one who remembered this
lol

Artificer-Urza

Just because Waterman or anyone for that matter gets kicked out doesn’t mean that Danni is automatically in.

The Merry Lurker

Danni was the next runner up, though.

Hanna

But would the rest of the crew agree to kicking Waterman? He’s Bandit’s friend, after all.

SirFred131

I hope she isn’t going to realize that voting someone out will get Danni back in now, and vote out waterman.

justAnobody

Maybe but earlier when they talked about the death match’s it seemed that they were always spread out. Probably after a month or so they’d run them just a long enough space that you could look forward to the next match to enter but so long that its completely hopeless to enter this way. If this is true then any discrepancy would be resolved through the current death match standings so Danni would be the next play in the Game, if shes allowed.

Abnaxis

Do weeks last more than 7 days in this universe? A 150-hour workweek is quite impossible otherwise…

Navert

Technically, 7 days is 168 hours. So, it is possible. I doubt you’d live very long trying to pull it off though. 🙂

justAnobody

its all in when you take your rest. . . and lots and lots of coffee.

Lurker

Rant about Danni: If the stakes for losing were that high, Danni should have said something about it to Kleya during their match… or before the trials began. Seems like a bad move on her part. Also: Danni acknowledges Kleya is an outsider living alone on page 95, but on page 184 she’s implying Kleya has a perfect life? Granted she’s probably just lashing out about her own situation.

Elizabeth
Danni said her City changed the rules. I don’t think the stakes were this high before the trials. Before this, she “refused” to spend time in Reality. Now, if she’s not exaggerating, she’s about to have her life support cut off because her family can’t provide enough of a contribution to justify the resources needed to keep her alive. And I’m not too surprised the City won’t accept L.i.F.e. “money” to keep her going. I’m surprised getting into the Game would have been enough, honestly. Neither of those activities generates food or air. Providing entertainment to the Citizens only goes… Read more »
justAnobody

entertainment does go farther then you think when rome was building its empire the main way of keeping the citizens form revolting was free sports at this time this was the gladiator pits. so if she did get into the game it may have be justification for here existance.

techkid

But that then would not have been fair on Kleya. They knew logically that they would likely face each other, and wanted to give it their all when they did.

Considering how much Danni has lost (or at least believes she’s lost), she has reason enough to want to lash out. I just hope that whatever move Kleya makes can help.

Hanna

I’m surprised Danni didn’t make a big number about this being her last chance – she lost to Waterman by vote – would she have been voted out if the people voting knew they were sentencing her to death?

Annonymous

I think people subscribed to Danni’s channel didn’t they, I imagine Kleya’s sponsor just saw that and is going to show up and glare her out of the decision, seeing as she never technically “answered” the kick waterman out vote maybe she’s going to end up voting him out to save Danni, probably resulting in a long standing resentment and recurring personal vendetta with waterman who found another way into the game, possibly by some shady deal which somehow ties back to Dr.Grace

justAnobody

Basically through TENka which seems to have some control over everything.

Mary

The “feel” of these pages makes me think that people can’t watch them in the University.

bobby

wow…thats messed up, i feel bad for Danni. I think there has to b another way Kleya can have her b in the GAME other than forfeiting.

Fear the Swans

He can utterly thrash watermans coding or.. Take out the city leaders.

Fear the Swans

Or you know, HIRE Danny so she makes her own income.

Hanna

Danni turned Kleya’s offer for money away, saying it wasn’t enough. I doubt any amount of L.i.F.e. money can save her now – if she had gotten into the game, she presumably would’ve been too famous to pull the plug on.

Tre

It would not be heroic to kick waterman just to get danni in. since that is Kleya’s objective…it makes more sense for her to quit.
sides, how will she convince them to let danni in? she wasn’t very popular, she is kinda unrepentedly selfish(with reason but it still counts against her), and she doesn’t have a good sense of how to use the thing that made Kleya a major catch. a good knowledge of programming and specials as well as how to utilize them in combat

cwDeici

Eh, she’ll just get up the ‘quit’ screen to find Waterman has a 2-2 vote and then she either has a moment of weakness (versus her heroism, I think it’s just fine) and kicks him out or forfeits and is told by Tenka or some LiFe official they decided to kick out Waterman instead.

cwDeici

OR there could be some unexpected twist. 🙂

Corwal

A twist like Kleya’s forfeits, Danni gets in, Danni gets presented with an open petition of Bloody Mary which is at 2 VS 2 with a missing vote of her place in the team? And Kleya is back in and acted quite heroic regardless.

Tre

unless waterman gets himself kicked without kleya’s assistance(possible since he seems to be rule lawyering the group already), then I think the only way danni will get to continue on is kleya standing down. and remember, no writer can be afraid to kill a character off just cause its popular if the story needs it to die.
this isn’t a kid’s cartoon, so its very possible either danni dies or kleya forfiets might be the only two options. but I will admit I do hope for a better than depressing ending to this arc XD
