True, but arrogance leads to pride and pride always comes before the fall. Kleya going to go kick some a**. :3

Kleya should be relieved, the bandit is the only contender (save Danni), who she knows inside out. Heck she has already proven she can beat him while lying down – even if she didn’t exactly mean to be lying down. Then again, last time he was full of hubris and now he might actually take her seriously….

Jindra34 on 11/25/2011 @ 7:46 am

Well if they are making money off of this it would make sense since she was re-instated to have her face the same enemy. But yeah so a setup. And being paranoid doesn’t mean no one is out to get you.

THF on 11/25/2011 @ 8:40 pm

Darn it Jindra, you beat me to it! :)

Nice work with the lighting and whatnot.

Navert on 11/25/2011 @ 9:18 am

Definitely random. They just ran it a bunch of times until it randomly picked the perfect situation for them!

Fire Hazard on 12/05/2011 @ 9:52 pm

I’m pretty certain my DM does that when we piss him off!

Artificer-Urza on 11/25/2011 @ 11:44 am

If this weren’t a webcomic, if this were real life, I’d say yes, she is just being paranoid. Since this is a comic, I’d say duh, of course it was rigged. Personally, I would think a semi-final or final round match would be more dramatic, but that’s just me. If it were me, I would have Danni up against Bandit in the first round.

Fleur on 11/25/2011 @ 2:18 pm

yeah, random XD and yeah, you’re being set up :D oh wait, you know this already? haha

Kishi-keahi on 11/25/2011 @ 3:46 pm

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean there isn’t an invisible demon about to eat your face off.

You can do it Kleya!

Amazing art on this page. I seriously love the lighting. And I suspect they’d do anything to get views, so why not set up an “unintentional” rematch that would, of course, get hundreds or possibly thousands of views?

THF on 11/25/2011 @ 8:42 pm

Looking forward to this will she be able to resist the temptation to hack? I’m sure bandit will have some new trick up his sleeve. Unless this actually is random and he didn’t realize that he would be fighting someone who knows his sight drain special.

Huh… the Bandit was told to get Kat into the game trials. TENka wants to recruit her… if it’s rigged, why are they creating a situation where either she or their main player are going to get bumped off?

There’s more to it than setting Kat up to fail, but what…

Pheonid on 11/27/2011 @ 8:42 pm

I think the bandit will go in there expecting her to have ‘Mr. Happy’ and change up his happiness stat to compensate, and since she has an unknown special he doesn’t know about and he expects her to have a different special it will work in her favor. Purely conjecture though.

Stig Hemmer on 11/28/2011 @ 3:53 am

I think the Bandit has prepared himself to face her previous Special. And now she shows up with a new one. A “Nice” Special, but still one he hasn’t prepared for.

On computers, it’s actually not that hard to set things up so that each participant can be sure that the set-up is random, but that might tamper with plot development… After all, even if Kat isn’t being set up by Tenka, Aneeka certainly has it in for her.

Tim on 11/28/2011 @ 1:46 pm

“On computers, it’s actually not that hard to set things up so that each participant can be sure that the set-up is random.”

Could you elaborate? I’m a comp-sci student myself, and the only way that I can think of to make all participants sure of the randomness is if they were each allowed to contribute a locally generated element – IE: Each participant contributes a random permutation of the list, then all permutations are applied.

Is that what you had in mind? Because it seems to me like TENka could very easily still rig that, no matter how transparent it is, just by changing The Bandit’s contribution to whatever they need it to be – he’s not going to speak up and say that it was adjusted if he’s in on the ruse.

Nate on 11/29/2011 @ 6:41 am

“Is that what you had in mind? Because it seems to me like TENka could very easily still rig that, no matter how transparent it is…”

Basically what you described, except that everyone generates and publishes a cryptographic hash of their permutation before any of the permutations are published.

In order to do what you describe, TENka would have to crack the hash in order to rig the permutations.

Love the lighting effects from the glowing ‘floor’ grid. Very very well done.
