I love this panel layout, it definitely emphasizes how this is a private debate between the two, increasing the tension wonderfully!

Who is saying what?

Jane is the grey box, Kat is the pink.

Pink is Kat and gray is Jane. But it’s a private conversation.

I like how these 2 are having a argument between themselves, but everyone else is stuck watching, probably with no idea what’s going on. Unless they can hear the Whisper too…

I don’t remember Whispers transmitting to everyone in range, just the target…

Yes, Whispers only transmit to the desired target. If not there would be no point in Whispering…

Well, except for the Viewers couldn’t hear if they did…

You can tell which is speaking by the color of the boxes. Jane is gray, Kat is pink.

Kat: “Why Not?”
Jane: “Because I don’t.”
Kat: “Well, I do.”

to answer the question in another way, in case just saying the colours isn’t good enough, there are people who see pink as grey after all.

Unrelated, This was my first time commenting here, long time lurker… like my bookmark is titled for page 296 long time lurker.
I really enjoy the story, and check back daily despite knowing that it doesn’t update that often nor does it need to the current schedule is plenty good enough, and have reread the archives several times.

In case you’re colour-blind, in this page, Kat is speaking in the panels that show Jane and vice versa.
So in order, Kat speaks, then Jane replies, then Kat speaks again.

it looks like there is some patterning behind the boxes as well to help distinguish them kats has what looks like plant leaves behind her speech boxes while jane has a grey blood splatter effect

C’mon, Jane. Just give one remotely valid reason to the only person in the party at all willing to work with you here. (Well, aside from Danni, but she’s not capable of large-scale decisions just yet.)

Kinda. They both want want it their way, it’s just 1 is insisting on being nice, while the other most likely just butchered the team that attacked them not long ago…

…And she doesn’t seem happy that they aren’t agreeing…

On a side note, seems all replies ARE being done at the bottom of the page. Kinda means you gotta scroll up or open a new tag to look at the comment you’re replying to, but at least it’s still possible TO comment & reply…

I took a second look at the first panel and I really love everyone’s positioning. Especially the Dude’s lol

It seems agreeable to both though? Jane does not want it, Kat does, so Kat can have it and Jane doesn’t mind. Why is there a problem?

No, they must move as a team, so if they were to go through the portal, it would have to be at the team’s decision, and not just individual members doing what they want.

Just a minor observation, but I found it disorienting that the last panel changes the orientation. In all other panels, Jane is on the left facing right, and everyone else is on the right. In the last panel, the viewpoint is flipped to the opposite. My very first impression was that this was somehow Kat’s hand or someone else other than Jane. But clearly it is Jane’s — though facing now in the opposite direction from the switched perspective.

p.s. If the motivation is that you prefer the detail of seeing the fingers holding the weapon in her right hand, that is understandable. In a case like that, I would suggest that it would have been better to keep the other panels in that orientation with Jane on the right looking to the left and everyone else on the left looking right.

I believe that the hand she has her weapon in is her left though. The last panel looks as if jane brought her hand back as if prepping a swing (not overhand but turning to the side) due to the positioning of her fingers. No one holds a weapon like that unless they were prepping to attack (horizontal throw or swing.) If the hand had fingers down toward the ground however, then it would be a different situation.

The last panel clearly shows the weapon in her right hand. Try simulating it yourself. You cannot make you left hand hold something like that. Only the right hand can have the thumb and fingers in those relative orientations.

p.s. You can also check the previous page (or the next page) to see clearly that the weapon is in her right hand.

That isn’t a change in orientation. It is Jane cocking her hand back behind her to strike. At least that’s how I see it.

My thoughts were similar… “Oh a weapon is being shown, must be hinting that an attack is being prepared.” I didn’t really consider perspective or orientation at all.

Anyone else have this weird issue where you hit post comment and the page breaks? Reloading it doesn’t even work I have to retype the address and go to it. I also have an account if that matters.

Yeah, looks like you’re not the only one. Looks kinda like instead of the reply box going under the comment you’re replying to, it’s going at the very bottom of the page. Might try replying to someone else too, see how it goes…

Let me guess, you want the party to find the nearest town and start killing everyone? Or you want to mess around in the forest some more? Head to the boss and be turned into trees? Keep anyone from doing anything for weeks until your popularity all drops low enough that you PK your team again in desperation?

Isn’t she the leader? Shouldn’t she be coming up with a goal or plans for them or something?

Ooo, is this where the chosen leader and the story lead have a battle of wills for who is the true party leader? Or is this where we learn something about the other islands and what makes them special?

Cause, you know, either would be neat.

OOOOOH i like the idea of Kat usurping the party leader position!!! it would be good for her and for her goals, and also for Danni, and for Bandit and Dude coz they’d get more of a front seat to the new her
